The Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 7, AIG Victor Olaiya , PSC, paid a working visit to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command in Abuja, reaffirming his commitment to strengthening security, enhancing professionalism, and deepening community-police collaboration in the nation’s capital.
In a gathering attended by senior police officers, traditional leaders, representatives of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), and members of the press, AIG Olaiya emphasized the strategic importance of Abuja as the seat of Nigeria’s government and the need for heightened vigilance and coordination in securing the territory.
The AIG was warmly received by the Commissioner of Police, Ajao saka Adewele FCT Command, who detailed the command’s structure, operations, and achievements, including the recovery of stolen vehicles, firearms, ammunition, and the rescue of kidnapped victims with ransom proceeds recovered.
The CP Ajao saka Adewele also highlighted pressing challenges such as inadequate manpower, logistics, and accommodation, while requesting support in acquiring more patrol vehicles, motorcycles, and communication tools to enhance operational efficiency.
In his address, AIG Olaiya acknowledged the progress made by the command and assured the officers of his support in addressing resource constraints. “Abuja is unique, and security here cannot be taken lightly. We will continue to do our best to ensure peace, safety, and professionalism in policing,” he said.
He lauded the leadership of the Commissioner and encouraged officers to remain loyal, disciplined, and committed to their duties. The AIG also stressed the importance of respecting traditional institutions and collaborating with local communities for effective policing.
The event featured goodwill messages from PCRC Chairman Professor Rufus Ebegba and members of the Eminent Persons Forum, who praised the CP’s proactive approach to crime-fighting and community engagement. Issues such as land grabbing, traffic violations, and unapproved road tolling were raised, with calls for urgent intervention.
AIG Olaiya promised to follow up on these concerns and maintain regular engagement with stakeholders. He celebrated the institutionalization of Police Week as a platform for showcasing the work of the police and fostering public trust.
The visit ended with renewed commitments from all parties to work together toward a safer and more secure FCT.
