The Office of the President of the Senate has strongly denied recent allegations made by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, describing them as false, malicious, and an attempt to provoke public unrest and damage the reputation of the Senate’s leadership.

In a press statement issued on Friday, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Senate President, Rt Hon Eseme Eyiboh, condemned Akpoti-Uduaghan’s claims that Senate President Godswill Akpabio recruited former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello to assassinate her.

The statement said the comments, made during a public appearance in Kogi State on April 1, were “outrageous,” “a complete fabrication,” and “a deeply irresponsible and dangerous attempt to discredit the person and office of the Senate President.”

“This pattern of deliberate falsehoods and manipulative theatrics reveals a troubling willingness to exploit public sensitivities through recurring victimhood narratives,” Eyiboh stated, while reminding the public that Akpoti-Uduaghan had made previous unsubstantiated allegations against Akpabio, including claims of sexual harassment.

According to the statement, Akpoti-Uduaghan’s recent accusation follows a pattern of similar allegations she made against other public figures in 2019 and 2023, which the Senate President’s office described as part of an orchestrated campaign of misinformation.

The press release also addressed fresh allegations made by former Senator Elisha Abbo, who appeared on Arise Television on April 2 and accused Akpabio of manipulating the judiciary to secure his removal from the Senate. The Senate President’s office reminded the public that Abbo had previously retracted similar claims in 2023 and issued a public apology after admitting they were based on incorrect assumptions.

On Abbo’s claim that he was denied his entitlements, Eyiboh clarified that such matters are handled strictly through due process and administrative protocols, and are not subject to the Senate President’s personal discretion.

“The timing, tone, and striking similarity of these coordinated attacks point clearly to a politically motivated smear campaign,” the statement noted, alleging that undisclosed interests may be backing both individuals in an attempt to discredit Akpabio and the institution of the Senate.

Despite the allegations, the Senate President “remains undeterred,” the statement said, emphasizing Akpabio’s commitment to “national unity, institutional integrity, and the rule of law.”

Eyiboh confirmed that formal legal actions, including letters of demand for public retractions, apologies, and compensation for reputational damage, are being prepared against both Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan and Mr. Abbo.

The Senate leadership also called on Nigerians and the international community to disregard the claims, reaffirming its focus on legislative excellence and democratic development under Akpabio’s stewardship.
