Tunji Wusu –
The Senate is now in plenary session as Senate President Godswill Akpabio entered the chamber.
He arrived at 12:10 PM precisely.
Following the entrance of Akpabio, the Senate went into executive session.
During the meeting, Akpabio is anticipated to read President Bola Tinubu’s list of ministers.
Remember that on May 29, after his predecessor, former President Muhammadu Buhari, finished his eight years and two terms in office, Tinubu was sworn in as Nigeria’s 16th president.
Since the Fifth Amendment to the 1999 Constitution requires the President to present the names of his ministerial nominees to the National Assembly within 60 days of taking office, it was expected that the President would assemble his cabinet.
The National Assembly must receive Tinubu’s cabinet list within 60 days under the constitution, and there have been rumors that this period may be extended.
Recall how the late announcement of his cabinet members contributed to the sluggish start of the Muhammadu Buhari government.
Six months after his inauguration in 2015, Buhari introduced his cabinet, but Nigerians had higher hopes that Tinubu would conduct himself differently.
Alake refuted the rumors on July 6, 2023, saying that the President is aware of when it is appropriate for him to announce his cabinet.
