Hundreds of protesters on Tuesday besieged the National Assembly Complex, rallying in support of Senate President Godswill Akpabio while condemning Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central.
The demonstrators, wielding placards with various inscriptions, chanted pro-Akpabio solidarity songs as they decried Akpoti-Uduaghan’s recent actions and statements.
Despite the presence of security operatives, the anti-Akpoti-Uduaghan protesters obstructed key access points to the National Assembly, causing major traffic disruptions.
Among the protesting groups were members of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), who urged critics to refrain from distracting the Senate from its legislative duties.
A separate coalition of women also joined the demonstration, branding Akpoti-Uduaghan a “serial blackmailer” and “a disgrace to womanhood.” They voiced support for her six-month suspension and accused her of using sexual harassment allegations against the Senate President as a diversionary tactic to shift attention away from corruption allegations.
The protesters called for an end to what they described as deliberate efforts to undermine the Senate’s work.
