Akwa United have received a clear directive from the Akwa Ibom State Government to battle their way back into the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) next season.
The Promise Keepers, who suffered relegation to the Nigeria National League (NNL) last season, were handed the mandate on Thursday when the Commissioner for Sports, Elder Paul Bassey, paid a courtesy visit to the team.
Club Chairman Joseph Eno expressed firm confidence in the squad’s capacity to reclaim their top-flight status, insisting the players are motivated and ready for the task ahead.
“Akwa United is a big team in Nigeria, and we are determined to restore it to its rightful place by securing promotion to the Premier League at the end of the season,” Eno said. He thanked the state government for its support while formally announcing the kickoff of the 2025/26 NNL season.
The team has begun the campaign on a strong note, seizing two straight victories in their opening fixtures.
Paul Offor’s men will continue their push for promotion this weekend as they clash with Ekiti United at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium.
