Tigran Gambaryan, Binance’s head of financial crime compliance, came before the federal high court in Abuja on Thursday, April 4, to be arraigned on suspicions of money laundering
On February 28, Gambaryan and Nadeem Anjarwalla, Binance’s regional manager for Africa, were detained by Nigerian authorities.
Although Anjarwalla escaped from the custody of the office of the national security adviser (ONSA), both executives, along with Binance, are scheduled to be accused in court by the FG on Thursday for tax evasion and money laundering.
In the litigation marked: FHC/ABJ/CR/115/2024, Binance was accused of neglecting to register with the Federal Inland Revenue Service in order to pay all appropriate taxes managed by the service.
The FIRS also stated that while delivering taxable services to subscribers on its trading platform, the company neglected to produce invoices to those customers for the purpose of assessing and paying its VAT.
