Suspects

A couple has been detained by the Ondo State Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun, on suspicion of participating in a string of store break-ins and merchandise thefts totaling millions of Naira in Akure, the state capital.

Yesterday, the accused, Ngozi Kenneth, 33, and Adewale Olokungboye, 29, were presented before the security agency’s headquarters in Alagbaka, Akure.
In an attempt to shift blame, Olokungboye, the husband, stated that he was unaware of his wife’s involvement until Amotekun agents showed up at their house, where the products were located.

He did, however, acknowledge that he did not interrogate his wife about why she did not sleep at home on the day of the incident or about her absence.

He said: “My wife was the one that went to break into the shop. She went with Seun and Daniel in the middle of the night. It was raining heavily that night. It was when I woke up that I saw the goods that they went to steal. I did not bother to ask her where she got the goods from because I had to rush to work that morning.

“It was when Amotekun officers came to the house to arrest them that I realised that they went to steal the goods.

“The police have arrested us in the past for stealing. After that, I left her in Akure and went to Ado-Ekiti. This time around, I decided to come and check on the twins she had for me; that was how I was arrested with her.”

Speaking, the Amotekun Commander, Adetunji Adeleye, said the suspects after stealing the goods, went and did a fake affidavit as owners of the stolen properties.

Adeleye added that 31 other suspects involved in various crimes were arrested in various parts of the state, including a motorcycle snatcher who viciously attacked his victim.

Speaking, Amotekun Commander Adetunji Adeleye claimed that the suspects created a false affidavit claiming ownership of the stolen properties after stealing the products and departed.

Adeleye went on to say that 31 more suspects, including a motorcycle thief who brutally abused his victim, had been apprehended in different parts of the state in connection with different crimes.
