Abdullahi Garba, a 36-year-old man, is charged with stealing an amplifier from a Kano State mosque.
According to reports, the laborer broke into the Muslim prayer center in Kawon Lambu Hotoro, Nasarawa Local Government, Kano, and took the sound equipment, which is valued at N80,000.
The defendant was forced to appear before a Kano State Sharia Court on Monday, where he was charged with theft and criminal trespass.
Inspector Abdullahi Wada, the prosecutor, told the court that Najib Hamisu, the complainant, who lives in Tishama Quarters, Hotoro, reported the crime on March 14 at the Hotoro Police Station.
Vanguard reported that Wada claimed the defendants broke into the mosque and stole the amplifier, which was valued at N80,000.
The accused has subsequently admitted to the crime, according to the prosecution.
Judge Malam Umar Lawal-Abubakar nevertheless granted the accused N40,000 bail, with the condition that a single dependable guarantor—a close relative—be present.
The trial was rescheduled by Lawal-Abubakar for April 23.
