An elderly mother, 60, was detained for telling her 18-year-old daughter to give birth to her unborn child in Enugu.

Ada Joy Okonkwo, 18, and her 60-year-old mother, Christiana Okonkwo, were detained by police in Enugu State in connection with the birth of a newborn boy.

According to reports, the incident took place on November 7 at Olocha-Adogba in the state’s Awgu community.
The state police command’s spokesperson, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, said that preliminary inquiry indicates that the mother of the newborn infant used a kitchen knife to stab the child to death after receiving advice from her mother shortly after giving birth at home.

Ndukwe claimed that the corpse was placed in the mortuary for preservation and an autopsy while the infant was transferred to the hospital and declared dead by the staff doctors.
