On Sunday, thugs set fire to a police station in Umuchu, Aguata Local Government Area, Anambra State.
Around three in the morning, the thugs attacked the station on the Umuchu-Achina road and set the building on fire.
The station was reportedly renovated by members of the Umuchu Improvement Union after it was destroyed during the #EndSARS protest in 2020.
No casualties were reported during the attack, according to a source, because security personnel had left the station for another location and hadn’t yet arrived after it was destroyed during the #EndSARS protest.
“Community leaders had upgraded the station’s adjourning infrastructure and renovated the station itself before donating it to the Nigeria Police Force to aid in the localization’s fight against insecurity.
The source continued, “There was no police official on duty at the time of the Sunday attack because the station was vacated after it was attacked in 2020.
Charles Ezeabasili, President-General of the Umuchu Improvement Union, called the incident disappointing and unfortunate.
The hoodlums are occupied with destroying, demolishing, and burning down the police station while the Union has upgraded the facilities there and waits for the return of police officers. How do we advance, he cried.
Police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed the incident and stated that the area had calmed down. He also stated that the investigation had started.
The police station was still undergoing renovations when the hoodlums arrived early today and set it on fire, he claimed.
“The situation is under control, and the neighborhood is once again calm.
We want to take advantage of this chance to connect with the community and ask them for information that will help the police with their ongoing investigation.
