Angel Lawson and Orlu Ibrahim Nyekachi during prayer and courtesy visits in Rivers State.

Angel Lawson, the Action Democratic Party (ADP) governorship candidate in Rivers State, has sought prayers and guidance from Christian and Muslim leaders ahead of the formal launch of his campaign.

Lawson and his running mate, Orlu Ibrahim Nyekachi, visited St Paul’s African Church in Port Harcourt as part of what they described as a call to prayer and service.

The visit came as the ADP prepares to formally begin its governorship campaign in the state.

During the church visit, the candidates prayed for wisdom, courage and direction as they seek to lead Rivers State.

They also stressed the need for peace, unity and religious harmony among residents.

However, the campaign message went beyond religion. Lawson said his political journey would focus on bringing communities together and ensuring that people have a voice in the affairs of the state.

The candidates later paid a courtesy visit to the Chief Imam of Rivers State, Imam Ibrahim Yalow, at the Rivers State Central Mosque.

The visit provided another opportunity for the ADP candidates to seek prayers, blessings and guidance before the campaign begins.

Angel Lawson also used the engagements to reinforce his appeal for mutual respect among Rivers residents, regardless of faith, ethnicity or community.

The candidate said his administration would, if elected, place the welfare of Rivers people above other considerations.

For the ADP campaign, the outreach to both Christian and Muslim leaders signals an attempt to project a message of inclusion before the election contest gathers momentum.

Meanwhile, the visits place peace and religious tolerance at the centre of the campaign’s early messaging.

Lawson said he wants to build a Rivers State where every community counts and every voice matters.

As political activities increase ahead of the election, candidates will face growing pressure to explain how their promises can translate into practical policies.

For now, Angel Lawson has begun his campaign journey by seeking spiritual guidance and presenting unity as a central part of his political message.
