Babatunji Wusu –
A Kano high court has granted an injunction to halt the suspension of the All Progressives Congress (APC) national chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, from the party.
Justice A.M. Liman issued this interim order in response to Ganduje’s ex parte motion, which attempted to enforce his fundamental right to a fair hearing.
The suspension, which was initially imposed on April 15 by APC leaders in Dawakin ward, Tofa LGA, Kano, occurred after Ganduje was accused of corruption.
This local party move was swiftly overturned by the Kano State APC working committee, which also chastised the ward executives responsible for Ganduje’s suspension.
The Kano High Court’s Justice Usman Na’Abba, however, had earlier upheld the suspension, adding to the already complex legal and political situation.
In addition to prominent national security organizations like the police, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ganduje’s application listed the respondents as members of local party officials.
Ganduje’s suspension is no longer being enforced temporarily according to Justice Liman’s order, which also stipulates that no further action should be taken until the case is heard in full and a decision is rendered.
“That all the parties are hereby required to maintain status quo prior to the alleged emergency meeting of the APC Ganduje Ward executive members, and to refrain from taking any further action regarding this matter until the substantive application has been heard and decided upon,” Liman stated.
The judge then scheduled Ganduje’s appeal hearing for April 30.
