On Tuesday, a patient’s relative allegedly assaulted a medical worker at the Federal Medical Centre in Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
After losing a family member, the enraged relative allegedly turned on the medical worker.
She was supposed to have gone insane after learning that her relative had died.
Dr. Kunle Ashimi, the Ogun State Chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association, announced this in a statement on Wednesday.
Two hospital employees had previously been assaulted by relatives of deceased patients.
The most recent assault occurred last month, prompting the indictment of the culprits, a father and his son.
Speaking on the new assault, Ashimi stated that the patient died as a result of the injuries she received from her attacker after an encounter with loan sharks at her home.
On Friday, December 16, 2022, doctors were summoned by a colleague at the National Health Insurance Scheme desk, according to Ashimi.
He explained that the medical personnel had no other medical knowledge, but they prepared for the worst-case scenario.
“The physicians remained on standby till she arrived at night,” he claimed, citing ambulance delays.
According to Ashimi, the woman who attacked the doctor was apprehended and transferred to a neighboring police station.
