The National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Felix Morka, has attributed the recent wave of defections from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to internal crises within the opposition party and its inability to provide a viable political platform for its members.

Morka made the remarks during an appearance on Arise Television’s morning programme while reacting to the growing number of politicians leaving the PDP for the ruling APC.

According to him, the internal divisions within the PDP have weakened its capacity to function effectively as a political party or support the ambitions of its members.

“The PDP is no longer able to call itself a political party. The PDP is incapable, by its own internal dysfunction, of offering its members any sensible, credible, smart, actionable platform to pursue their political aspirations,” he said.

Morka argued that the ongoing defections should be interpreted as a vote of confidence in the APC rather than evidence that Nigeria is drifting toward a one-party political system.

“When people decamp to the APC, it is an endorsement of the party. It is a statement that the APC is able to offer what the opposition cannot offer, and that is not our fault,” he added.

He also dismissed claims that the country is gradually becoming a one-party state, describing such assertions as misleading and lacking an understanding of the dynamics of Nigeria’s democratic system.

“When people suggest that the country is turning into a one-party state, that is utterly mischievous because it does not take into account the history and realities of a democratic society like we have in Nigeria,” he said.

His comments come amid continued defections of political figures, including governors, from the PDP to the APC across several states.
