APC disowns Abayomi Hunye, backs Adeola Olamilekan for 2027 Ogun governorship

APC disowns Abayomi Hunye and says he is not its governorship candidate for the 2027 election in Ogun State.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has rejected Abayomi Hunye’s claim to the party’s governorship ticket, describing him as an “imposter”.

The party’s National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, made the position clear in a statement issued in Abuja on Monday.

He said Senator Adeola Olamilekan remains the APC’s recognised governorship candidate in Ogun State.

Basiru also said Hunye was not a member of the party in good standing. According to him, the party suspended Mr Hunye on 7 April 2026.

Basiru said the suspension did not happen arbitrarily. Instead, he linked the decision to a petition submitted by members of Hunye’s Tube Ward in Ipokia Local Government Area.

The development could intensify political competition in Ogun ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

However, the party’s statement draws a clear line between its official candidate and Mr Hunye’s claim.

The APC has therefore urged attention to its recognised candidate, Senator Adeola Olamilekan, as preparations for the election gather pace.

For now, the party maintains that Hunye does not represent it in the governorship race.

The dispute could also raise questions about the process through which political parties recognise candidates ahead of elections. However, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will ultimately administer the electoral process and publish relevant information as the 2027 election approaches.
