APC Dominates Ondo LG Elections, Winning 18 Chairmanship and 203 Councilorship Seats

• ODIEC’s Commitment: The Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC) assured residents of continued improvements in future elections, particularly in voter education and political participation.

In a decisive victory, the All Progressives Congress (APC) emerged as the dominant force in the Ondo State Local Government elections, winning all 18 chairmanship and 203 councilorship seats. The results, announced by Joseph Aremo, Chairman of the Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC), confirmed that APC candidates secured victory across all 18 local government areas and 203 wards in the state.

The elections, which were contested by 12 political parties, were reported to have been peaceful, with no major incidents or disruptions. Mr. Aremo praised residents for their participation and adherence to the rule of law, stressing that the elections were free, fair, credible, and transparent.

The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had withdrawn from the elections just 48 hours before polling day, citing a lack of confidence in the ODIEC’s ability to conduct a credible election. Despite this, Mr. Aremo emphasized the commission’s commitment to improving future elections, particularly in terms of voter education and political participation. He called on political parties to play a greater role in educating their members and ensuring active participation in the democratic process.
