The All Progressives Congress (APC) has confirmed that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, is being actively engaged to help resolve the prolonged political crisis in Rivers State.
The party’s National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru, disclosed this on Thursday during an interview on TVC News, describing Wike as a key stakeholder whose influence remains significant to the success of the current administration.
Basiru said the decision to involve Wike was driven by the strategic importance of Rivers State to President Bola Tinubu’s political stability and broader governance agenda.
According to him, although Wike is not a member of the APC, his open support for President Tinubu and his deep-rooted political structure in Rivers State make him indispensable in ongoing efforts to restore political harmony.
“Rivers State is critical to the success of President Bola Tinubu, and Wike, as an avowed supporter of the President, is being engaged to help resolve the political crisis in the state,” Basiru said.
Rivers State has been embroiled in a lingering political standoff following a fallout between Wike and his former political ally and successor, Governor Siminalayi Fubara. The rift, which centres on control of the state’s political structure, has continued to polarise the state’s political landscape and disrupt governance.
The APC’s intervention signals renewed efforts at the federal level to de-escalate tensions and stabilise the political climate in one of Nigeria’s most politically influential states.
