The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has inaugurated a 9-man committee to investigate the bombing of its secretariat along the PH-Aba expressway on October 5, 2024. The committee, led by Kelechi Nwizu, is the first major assignment for the new executive of the Okocha-led APC, following a meeting of the state executive council.
A police report revealed that the explosion occurred around 3:00 am, with a security guard reporting a loud bang and seeing three black Toyota Hilux vans fleeing the scene. The blast caused substantial damage to the building, destroying its gate, shattering windows, and setting the security building on fire. The police later recovered an improvised explosive device (IED) and confirmed the use of incendiary materials in the attack.
Despite these developments, Governor Fubara’s panel of inquiry, set up to investigate attacks on local government secretariats, did not include the bombing of the APC secretariat or the arson attack on the State House of Assembly. Okocha criticized the governor’s refusal to broaden the scope of the inquiry and emphasized the APC’s decision to establish its own committee to investigate the attack, stressing that the panel would have full authority to invite anyone involved.
Okocha also commended President Bola Tinubu for his efforts in revitalizing Nigeria’s refineries, particularly the recent reactivation of the Port Harcourt refinery. He also noted Tinubu’s diplomatic successes, including strengthening ties with South Africa. Okocha urged Nigerians to be patient and supportive of the president, emphasizing that positive change takes time.
