APC National Chairman Yilwatda Leads Mass Defection in Kano as Tinubu, Yusuf Secure Second-Term Endorsements

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, on Sunday presided over a major political realignment in Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area of Kano State, formally receiving defectors from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) into the ruling party.

The high-profile event, held ahead of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s official welcoming rally into the APC, signaled a deepening consolidation of the party’s influence in Kano State. Scores of former NNPP and PDP members publicly declared their allegiance to the APC, pledging loyalty to the party’s leadership at both the state and national levels.

Amid chants and applause from party faithful, supporters and new entrants endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in office, reaffirming confidence in his administration. Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf also secured a strong vote of confidence from the gathering, with party stakeholders backing his return for another tenure.

In a significant political appeal, a prominent indigene of the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency urged the Chief of Staff to the APC National Chairman, Hon. Mustapha Bala Dawaki, to rejoin frontline politics and contest the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa House of Representatives seat. The call drew loud approval from attendees, further electrifying the rally.

The defection ceremony attracted an array of APC heavyweights, underscoring its strategic importance. Among those present were Deputy Senate President Senator Barau Jibrin; former APC National Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje; Kano State APC Chairman Abdullahi Abbas; Executive Chairman of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGi), Ismail Ahmed; and Special Adviser to the President on Senate Matters, Senator Bashir Lado Mohammed, alongside other party leaders and stakeholders.

The rally marks a critical moment in Kano’s evolving political landscape, as the APC intensifies efforts to strengthen its grassroots base and position itself decisively ahead of future electoral contests.
