The All Progressives Congress (APC) has refuted claims made by rival political groups that President Muhammadu Buhari was assaulted on Monday while visiting Kano.
In a statement released Monday night, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, Director of Media and Publicity for the APC Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), stated that, in contrast to the rumors, Buhari was well received in the state.
Onanuga advised Nigerians to ignore the purported attack on Buhari, calling it “false news” from a political group that had lost touch with reality.
He continued by stating that the alleged assault on Buhari could only have been imagined by the national publicity secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“Given that the PDP has nothing concrete to report to Nigerians about its faltering presidential campaign, we are not surprised to read of the fictitious attack on the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria being peddled by the party.
“The PDP National Publicity Secretary’s vivid imagination must be the only place where this alleged attack on President Buhari actually took place.
“Nigerians should ignore this false information coming from a party that has lost its sense of reality.
Onanuga stated that “President Buhari was cordially welcomed in Kano State by the excellent people and government of the state where he commissioned eight really significant projects.”
The overhead bridge with underpass and a cancer center were among the projects the president dedicated while visiting Kano State that were highlighted by the APC PCC Director of Media and Publicity.
He noted that the APC PCC had previously warned the country of the PDP’s intention to organize and carry out several nefarious schemes to disparage, mock, and delegitimize Buhari and Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the APC presidential candidate.
The PCC did not raise a false alarm when it described the purported nefarious plots of PDP and its hirelings in a statement released on Sunday, Jan. 29, he continued, adding that Nigerians of good will would have realized this by now.
Only the PDP’s evil thinking could have thought of attacking the President of Nigeria.
“It’s not impossible that the PDP, using its paid agents, would hire criminals to arrange an assault.
“However, we are confident that the security agencies can thwart any planned attempt on the president, and everyone who is implicated in such an evil plot now or in the future will be held personally accountable.
We demand that the security agencies, in particular the Police and Department of State Security, detain the PDP National Publicity Secretary right now so he can be questioned about the alleged attack, according to Onanuga.
