Two persons were confirmed dead during the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) rally at the weekend in Igboora area of Oyo State.

The deaths, it was learnt, occurred following a bloody clash that broke out between suspected political hoodlums soon after the rally held at the old motor park in Igboora.

A group of hoodlums were said to have accosted the APC governorship candidate to demand money but were prevented by another group of hoodlums from achieving their goal.

What followed, it was learnt, were heated arguments which latter snowballed into gun battle which left an innocent resident identified to be a younger brother to an APC leader in the community and another person dead, with several others injured.

The development has since resulted in counter allegations and reactions from APC and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

While the APC claimed the PDP were responsible for the mayhem, the opposition party said the ruling party should look inwards for the perpetrators.

In a statement by APC communication team the party said, “Guns were freely displayed by thugs alleged to have been arranged and sponsored by the PDP and some other parties to carry out the dastardly act.

“The mayhem eventually cost two lives. One of which is a younger brother to the leader of our party, Alhaji Olayide Abas. We hereby charge security agencies to investigate and unravel the killers of the deceased.

“It is important to note that the PDP has continually incited the people to cause trouble, having realised that the game is over. The PDP is among the parties that masterminded the mayhem.”

Recall that APC rally in Lagos had also turned bloody leaving several persons injured.

The party’s presidential rallies in Borno State and Sokoto states were reported to have recorded death of several citizens. The deaths in Borno and Sokoto however were not as a result of violence but accidental.
