The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been urged to announce the results of the election for THE Plateau Central Senatorial District by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State.
According to the party, Diket Plang won by a comfortable margin of more than 4,000 votes.
APC State Publicity Secretary Sylvanus Namang said in a statement that it is surprising that INEC is delaying the announcement of the results 10 days after the election given that the APC candidate is unquestionably the victor, even after a recount that showed him maintaining the lead because the numbers still added up with the Bimodal Voters Accreditation System (BVAS) results.
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, which has forcibly occupied the INEC offices in Pankshin and Jos for the past week in an effort to dupe the electoral umpire into declaring its candidate the winner of the Plateau Central Senatorial District election, was denounced by the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“This has caused unnecessary tension in the state, and INEC shouldn’t permit itself to be complicit in any breakdown of peace and order, which is what the PDP in the state is causing. We demand that security around INEC facilities in the impacted areas be stepped up before the results as compiled by INEC are immediately announced.
The PDP is currently holding a protest outside the INEC headquarters on Rantya Road, which the APC, a law-abiding party, would not want to support since it would be the height of irresponsibility and blackmail. We urge all APC supporters in the state to maintain their composure as we demand INEC to take the appropriate action right away in accordance with the electoral law and its constitutional mandate, the official said.
