The Action Peoples Party (APP) has dissolved its Imo State Executive Committee and swiftly constituted an eight-member Interim Caretaker Committee to steer the party’s affairs pending fresh congresses.
The decision emerged from an emergency meeting of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) and received ratification from the National Executive Committee (NEC), signalling a decisive intervention in the state chapter’s leadership structure.
The newly appointed Interim Caretaker Committee will manage the party until congresses are conducted at ward, local government and state levels. Ernest Njesi will chair the committee, with Emeka Onwukwe serving as Secretary. Henry Alaribe takes the position of Deputy Chairman for Owerri zone, while Ogemdi Ezemonye assumes Deputy Chairman for Orlu zone. Ernest Ezirim will oversee Okigwe zone as Deputy Chairman. Cajethan Duke emerges as Publicity Secretary, and Peter Etoh will serve as Treasurer.
Addressing the appointees, the party’s National Chairman, Uchenna Nnadi, said the dissolution was necessary to restore internal harmony and reposition the party for stronger grassroots engagement. He charged the caretaker executives to operate inclusively and ensure that all party members are integrated into the rebuilding process.
In a related move, the APP has formally notified the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of its readiness to conduct congresses across the state.
In a letter dated March 2, 2026, and addressed to the INEC Chairman, the National Chairman, Nnadi, alongside the National Secretary, Abu Ibrahim Bossan, communicated the party’s compliance with the statutory 21-day notice requirement.
According to the notification, ward congresses will hold on March 24, 2026, followed by Local Government congresses on March 26, while the State congress is scheduled for March 28, 2026.
The latest development underscores the party’s bid to reset its internal structure in Imo State and consolidate its base ahead of future political engagements.
