Arsenal are on the verge of their first summer signings, according reports from reliable sources.

The North London club have just appointed Unai Emery as head coach and are looking to start a building process immediately after reports claimed that the Gunners have engaged Juventus defender Stephan Lichtsteiner in contract talks.

The Swiss defender is out of contract with Juve at the end of the season and could leave on free transfer this summer, having won 14 trophies with the Old Lady during his time in Italy.

Arsenal are believed to have prioritized signing defenders this summer and see Lichtsteiner has an experienced player who could provide competition for Hector Bellerin who is the only recognised right-back at the Emirates.

Reports in the Evening Standard claim that the full-back checked in at London Colney to have preliminary discussions with the clubs chiefs and deal could be finalised in the coming days.

Lichtsteiner has earlier confirmed that he will be leaving Juventus this summer, having spent seven trophy laden years at the club, he said: ‘I don’t chase money and I need a place where I’ll have a good quality of life,’ the Swiss said. ‘My wife and children have to be happy and that wouldn’t be the case in China. I don’t need more money.’
