The Football Association has charged Arsenal with failing to control its players during Tuesday’s goalless Premier League draw with Newcastle United.
Arsenal was denied two late penalty claims, and several players confronted referee Andrew Madley in stoppage time to request a penalty for a possible handball. Madley dismissed the appeals after issuing nine yellow cards in a fractious and scrappy game.
“It is alleged that Arsenal FC failed to ensure its players conducted themselves in an orderly manner during the 95th minute,” the FA said in a statement on Friday.
Arsenal leads Manchester City by five points in the Premier League. It will return to FA Cup action against Oxford United on Monday.
