After early goals from Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka propelled Arsenal to a 2-1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers at home on Saturday, the team extended its lead in the Premier League to four points.

Arsenal got off to a scorching start in subzero temperatures, and the points appeared certain as soon as skipper Odegaard increased the lead in the thirteenth minute.

In the sixth minute, Saka gave Mikel Arteta’s team the lead after a deft piece of link-up play put him clear.

After regrouping, Wolves made some progress, but Arsenal remained unfazed until 86 minutes, when Matheus Cunha fired a hard shot past David Raya, the home goalkeeper, to set up an unanticipatedly tense finale.

Arsenal leads champion Manchester City, who faces Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, 29 points, to 33 points from 14 games. Liverpool and Aston Villa are also playing on Sunday, 28 points.

The manager of Arsenal, Arteta, stated, “I’m really happy with the way we played. Football is not perfect.”

“The scoreline ought to have been far larger. The Premier League is back in action after we made a mistake and they took the opportunity. We didn’t throw away the opportunities we had.

Arsenal’s failure to win the title after coming so close to defeating Manchester City in the previous season raised concerns that they might not be able to repeat their previous success.

However, Arteta’s team is exhibiting the kind of constancy needed for a protracted championship fight.

“We must continue to perform like we do and win games. We have another crucial game against Luton, so maintaining that every three days is the problem, Arteta continued.

Arsenal came out of the traps to dominate Wolves, much like it did against Lens in the Champions League midweek when it scored five goals in the first half.

The first goal typified Arsenal’s offensive style as Saka and Gabriel Jesus connected, and then Takehiro Tomiyasu sent the ball to the teenage English striker, who hammered home the finish past Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa.

Another team goal from Arsenal extended their lead. This time, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Jesus played a one-two before Odegaard side-footed a perfect finish.

But a third goal eluded them, and Wolves seemed suddenly capable of salvaging a point when Cunha beat Raya with a curling left-footed effort late on.
