Sampdoria midfielder Lucas Torreira has said Arsenal are ‘one of the most important teams in the world’ amidst speculation about a move to the Emirates.

The Uruguayuan has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal in recent weeks following reports that the London club has meet the financial demands of Sampdoria after agreeing a 26 million pounds move for the midfielder.

The Serie A club’s president Massimo Ferrero also fueled the transfer reports last week, after admitting that Torreira has been sold ‘Torreira has left for €30million, I bought him from Pescara when nobody believed in him,

‘We took a gamble on him and we won, paying just €3million. ‘The money that comes in will be used to capitalise the company.’

Arsenal new boss Unai Emery is believed to be looking out for new faces in the midfield following the departures of Jack Wilshere and Santi Cazorla.

When asked about his proposed Arsenal move, Torreira said:

‘No, I don’t know [if he is an Arsenal player].

‘At the moment , the most important thing is playing for my country. ‘Arsenal are a good team, one of the most important in the world, but at this moment I am focused on playing for my country.’

Despite his claims, the midfielder is expected to join up with his new teammates in North London after the World Cup.
