Babatunji Wusu –
Two residential buildings partially collapsed on Sunday in Ketu, Lagos State, sending one male adult to the hospital.
According to a statement released on Sunday by Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, permanent secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the two- and four-story buildings next to each other on 48 Oduntan Street, Kosofe Bus Stop in Ketu, fell.
He claimed that the owners’ neglectful upkeep and the buildings’ aging were the causes of the collapse.
“Further research showed that the building’s staircase caved in. Unfortunately, a male adult fell from the top level as a result of the fall and was rushed to the hospital, according to the statement.
In order to prevent further secondary events, residents of the building have been ordered to leave under the supervision of the combined team of LASEMA, RRS, LABSCA, and LNSC.However, the aforementioned structure will be demolished since, as a LABSCA officer present at the scene verified, it failed the structural integrity test and posed a hazard to nearby buildings and the general public.
