Babatunji Wusu –
Former Atiku-Okowa presidential campaign council spokesman Daniel Bwala has chastised Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, for his remarks regarding the nation’s borrowings.
Remember how the former governor of Anambra State expressed his concern about the nation’s ongoing borrowing at an alarming rate over time?
Tuesday, Obi expressed his concerns in a series of posts on his official X handle, stating that he is more worried about the fact that loans have not been used prudently or for investments as required by law.
According to Obi, the N23 trillion in ways and means that the previous administration borrowed would have ended if there had been no discernible investment or benefit to the country.
In response, Bwala stated in a post on his X account on Wednesday that the former governor lacked the moral authority to denounce President Bola Tinubu for taking out loans from outside sources.
He said that when Obi entered office as governor of Anambra, the state debt stock had grown by more than 1000%, from less than N16 million to over N3 billion at the time of his handover.
He wrote: “Mr Peter “Gbajue” Obi @PeterObi is condemning @officialABAT for borrowing but during his time as Governor of Anambra he grew Anambra state debt stock by over 1000% from under N16m that it was before he took office to over N3bn by the time he handed over.”
