The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) will discuss urgent welfare issues impacting its members during an emergency National Executive Council (NEC) meeting that will take place in Abuja.
The union’s national leaders, branch chairmen from around the country, zonal coordinators, and senior officers will all be present at the pivotal meeting, which is set to happen in the ASUU Secretariat.
All people anticipated to attend have been notified in advance of the conference, guaranteeing a strong turnout for in-depth talks.
This conference comes after another one that was conducted at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State, when branch chairmen and zonal coordinators were given particular assignments.
An unnamed insider told SunNewspaper that a review of these tasks and additional talks on outstanding matters would be on the agenda for the next meeting.
The insider did not, however, clarify if the federal government had made any fresh suggestions or acted decisively in response to the unresolved issues that called for an urgent NEC meeting.
“I am not aware of any new government positions on our demands,” the person said. The federal government needs to pay attention to the numerous unmet requests we have. Numerous letters were sent, but none received a favorable reply.
“I can tell you that our members are furious about the government’s refusal to address issues affecting public universities across the nation, such as withheld salaries and non-payment of academic earned allowances.”
