In opposition to the payment of half salary, the Academic Staff Union of Universities, or ASUU, has announced that it will hold demonstrations and designate a day without classes.
The report was corroborated by Moyosore Ajao, the chairman of the ASUU at the University of Ilorin. The National Parent Teacher Association of Nigeria (NAPTAN), which represents parents, responded to this by stating that since the lecturers picked up where they left off in the 2021–2022 session, they should be compensated.
In a statement, Alhaji Haruna Danjuma, the national president of NAPTAN, said: “The government should act morally. The lecturers must be compensated. We’re all aware that some time has been lost, but given there are efforts being made to close the gap, there shouldn’t be any further steps taken to speed up the procedure.
Teachers and pupils would just have to miss a few holidays, and as parents, we don’t want anything to upset the balance once more. Parents eagerly await the day when their children graduate from school and begin to enjoy the rewards of their labor. Education shouldn’t be permitted to enter another crisis due to a personality conflict or ego issue, he said.
