Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has fiercely condemned the invasion of the Lagos State House of Assembly by armed security operatives, denouncing it as a brazen assault on democracy.

A viral video capturing the shocking scene has ignited widespread outrage, showing heavily armed officers storming the legislative complex in what Atiku calls a deliberate move to force a leadership change.

In a statement posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, Atiku expressed deep frustration over the incident and demanded a full-scale investigation into the circumstances surrounding the invasion.

“The viral video of armed security operatives invading the Lagos State House of Assembly is utterly reprehensible and stands condemned. It must be subjected to a full and thorough investigation,” he declared.

He lambasted the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for enabling such an undemocratic display of power under its watch. He accused those who once championed democracy of now orchestrating its erosion by endorsing blatant attacks on democratic institutions.

Atiku stressed that internal conflicts within the Lagos State House of Assembly must be resolved through lawful and democratic means, not brute force. He urged authorities to uphold the sanctity of the legislature and safeguard the rights of elected representatives.

As backlash over the invasion intensifies, political analysts and civil society groups have joined the chorus of condemnation, warning that such reckless interference could set a dangerous precedent for Nigeria’s fragile democracy.

While the APC has yet to issue an official response, the role of security agencies in political affairs remains a pressing concern in the ongoing debate over the country’s democratic integrity.
