People’s Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has congratulated the United States President, Donald Trump, after investigations into possible collusion by the Trump campaign organisation and Russia ended on a favourable note for Trump.
Special counsel Robert Mueller, last weekend, concluded his probe and handed his final report to US Attorney General William Barr.
Mr Mueller probed Russia’s role in the 2016 presidential election and whether Trump unlawfully sought to obstruct the probe.
Trump has severally called the investigation a ‘witch-hunt’. Russia too had denied interfering in the election.
Despite several allies of the president being indicted, Trump has appeared to weather to storm.
Following this, in a tweet on Tuesday, Atiku congratulated Trump and hoped that the ‘vindication’ would give room for Trump to achieve ‘further successes’.
“I congratulate President @realDonaldTrump on his vindication by the Robert Mueller report. It is my hope that the lifting of this cloud will give room for further successes by the 45th President of the United States,” he wrote.
Atiku added that he hoped Nigeria would draw from the US example of following legal process in uncovering the truth of a matter.
“I trust Nigeria can learn from the application of rigorous due process to get to the truth of our current challenges. Congratulations once again,” he said.
