“Atiku’s Ex-Aide Bwala: ‘Governors Are Undermining Democracy with Suit Against EFCC'”

Daniel Bwala, a former aide to ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has accused state governors of attempting to undermine Nigeria’s democracy. This assertion comes in light of a lawsuit filed by sixteen state governments at the Supreme Court challenging the legality of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Speaking on Tuesday’s edition of Channels Television’s The Morning Brief, Bwala, a former member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), suggested that this legal action reflects a broader agenda by governors to frustrate democratic governance in the country. He criticized the governors for their lack of development in their respective states, claiming they have shifted governance responsibilities to the Federal Government.

“The governors in Nigeria are making concerted efforts to destroy this democracy,” Bwala stated. He elaborated on his concerns regarding the flow of federal allocations, emphasizing that most of these funds are directed to the states. “When nobody was looking at the responsibilities of the federating units in governance, all pressures were focused on President Tinubu,” he noted, highlighting a lack of scrutiny on state governors and their actions.

Furthermore, Bwala accused the governors of being complicit in corruption and implied that their recent push to abolish the EFCC is part of a strategy to evade accountability.
