Usman Baba, the inspector general of police, has issued a warning to any criminal groups attacking INEC sites around the nation, telling them to stop right away because the Nigeria Police Force will no longer tolerate such attacks.
The IGP emphasized that the Force will work with other sister security agencies to guarantee credible, fair, and free elections in 2023, as President Mohammed Buhari had promised.
The IGP said “enough is enough” of such a cruel conduct because it would no longer be business as usual for the criminal elements at a meeting with strategic Police officers from the tiers of Commissioners of Police and above at the Force headquarters in Abuja prior to the 2023 general elections.
The Nigeria Police, he claimed, “has the necessary human ability in terms of experience, strength of character, and professionalism to overcome the present and growing issues ahead of the 2019 elections.”
The purpose of the gathering is to examine and improve our election security governance plans in advance of the 2023 general elections, as well as to establish our police goals as we usher in the year 2023. We will also discuss operational problems related to our policing mission.
The previous year brought up a number of security issues that eventually became a threat to the nation’s security order and cohesion.
The IGP said, “We have put steps in place to prevent future incidents, to apprehend the criminals, and to bring the culprits to account.” In reference to the measures to stop the ongoing attacks on the INEC facilities.
“We’ve also sent people out to prevent attacks. We have increased our effort to gather intelligence. We’ve learned that the criminal elements were employing dynamite, petrol bombs, and gunshot from a distance to carry out their heinous deeds, but they’ll have somewhere to hide. Other security services and the Nigeria Police Force are in control of the situation. We are requesting help from the public in the form of reliable information regarding these perpetrators.
