President Muhammadu Buhari is anticipated to attend the “Day of Tribute” held in memory of Chief Mbazulike Amechi, a late nationalist and elder statesman who was one of the last living fathers of Nigerian independence (Dara Akunwafor).

The Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, is also anticipated at the Day of Tribute, scheduled for Tuesday, February 7, 2023, at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja.

 

The Day of Tribute is a planned event for Chief Amechi’s funeral, who passed away on November 1, 2022, at the age of 93. In the First Republic, he served as Nigeria’s aviation minister and as a member of parliament.

Former Nigerian President Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan (GEJ) has been selected to preside over the event, and Senator Ahmed Lawan, President of the Senate, and Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, Speaker of the House of Representatives, have been named as Special Guests of Honor.

Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and Mr. Peter Obi, presidential candidates for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), All Progressives Congress (APC), and Labour Party (LP), respectively, are among those invited for the program, according to a statement signed by the planning committee secretary, Hon. CID Maduabum.

Senator Ben Obi is the head of the planning committee for the “Day of Tribute” in Abuja.

The funeral is scheduled on February 16, 2023, at Ukpor, Anambra State’s Nnewi South local government area.

Many state governors, ministers, elected officials, and members of the diplomatic community have already shown interest in attending the program scheduled for 12 o’clock.

This was confirmed in the event’s schedule created by the National Planning Committee for Chief Amechi’s Funeral, whose chairman is Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu and secretary is Hon. CID Maduabum.

The program is expected to be attended by other top government officials, business leaders, prominent politicians, and people from all walks of life.

The International Convention Center (ICC), Awka, Anambra State, has organized a similar “Day of Tribute” for the deceased nationalist before midday on

February 14, 2023, on a Tuesday.

There are currently a number of committees in place to ensure the success of the funeral program.

One of these is the Finance Committee, whose head is Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, a former president of the Senate.

To help the National Planning Committee organize a dignified funeral for Chief Mbazulike Amechi, a 39-member State Organising Committee (SOC) of notable individuals has also been established in Anambra State.

 

Chief Innocent Chukuwuma of Innoson Motors is the chairman and Chief Maja Umeh is the co-chairman of the 39-member SOC.
