Tunji Wusu –
The creation of a thorough training program and curriculum for police colleges with a focus on attitudinal and behavioral development for police officers has been ordered by Olukayode Egbetokun, the acting Inspector-General of Police.
He said that doing this would increase police officers’ professionalism, efficiency, and public trust.
The training will involve scenarios and simulations that simulate real-life circumstances to allow officers to practice crucial decision-making skills while taking into account the potential impact on community relations, according to a statement released on Friday by the Force spokesperson, Adejobi Muyiwa.
The IGP pledged to increase the professionalism, efficiency, and public confidence in our law enforcement officers, according to the statement. In keeping with this pledge, he has already started the process of creating a thorough curriculum and training program for colleges and training institutions that will place more focus on behavioral and attitude adjustments in addition to physical and technical fitness.
“The IGP recognizes that law enforcement is a multifaceted field that calls for not only physical stamina and technological expertise, but also mental alertness and the highest standards of moral behavior, empathy, and effective communication. The new training program will be created to address the significance of behavioral and attitude changes, foster a positive and community-oriented mindset among police officers by instilling values such as integrity, effective communication, and emphasizing the importance of respectful and compassionate interactions with members of the public. It will also be designed to improve interpersonal skills, conflict resolution methods, cultural sensitivity, and de-escalation strategies aimed at preventing potentially dangerous situations from getting out of hand.
“In addition, the training program will include scenarios and simulations that mimic real-life situations, allowing officers to practice crucial decision-making skills while taking the potential impact on community relations into consideration.”
According to him, the IGP pledged to establish this extensive training program in close collaboration with seasoned instructors, subject matter experts, and community stakeholders.
