Nigerian singer reveals early start in church choir at age 10
Says being a lead vocalist helped refine her voice
Talks about her journey in a chat with Amazing Jazzy

Nigerian music sensation, Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe, professionally known as Ayra Starr, has reflected on how her early years as a church chorister influenced her music career.

The award-winning singer revealed that she discovered her passion for music at the age of 10, serving as the lead vocalist in her church’s children’s choir.

In a recent conversation with Amazing Jazzy, Starr emphasized how the experience refined her vocal abilities.

“I absolutely loved being in the choir. I was the loudest child in the group—it was a kids’ choir, and we were all so young,” she shared.

“That was when I first realized I could actually sing. It played a huge role in shaping my voice and my approach to music,” she added.
