Azuka Okwuosa has won the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for the Anambra South senatorial by-election scheduled for August 16, 2025. He emerged victorious over Dr. Obinna Uzor in a competitive primary election, securing 470 votes against Uzor’s 57 votes from 594 delegates representing all seven local government areas.
This election follows the unfortunate passing of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, who died in the United Kingdom about a year ago. The primary, chaired by Chief Henry Ikoh, was conducted peacefully under the supervision of the APC national secretariat committee, with the presence of INEC officials and security agents.
In his acceptance speech, Okwuosa expressed both elation and solemn respect, acknowledging Senator Ubah’s impactful tenure and viewing his nomination as a challenge to continue his work. Born on November 3, 1959, in Jos, Plateau State, Okwuosa comes from a Christian family native to Anambra State.
His diverse political background includes contesting for governor under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), a brief stint with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) between 1999 and 2003, before settling with the APC. He has served as chairman of Nnewi North Local Government Council, commissioner for works and transport in Anambra State, and Secretary-General of the South-East Development Initiative.
Renowned in Anambra politics for his problem-solving abilities and role as a mediator, Okwuosa enjoys widespread respect for fostering peaceful coexistence among party members and the larger community.
