Media personality Babajide Otitoju has sharply criticised presidential aide Daniel Bwala over his recent interview with Mehdi Hasan, branding the encounter a major misstep.
Speaking on Issues With Jide on TVC News, Otitoju said Bwala himself hyped the interview ahead of time, praising Hasan’s reputation as a formidable interviewer.
“He told his followers the interview was coming and even commended Hasan’s courage as a strong arguer,” Otitoju noted.
The veteran broadcaster explained that Hasan is renowned for dominating discussions, forcing interviewees to defend themselves rigorously. Otitoju argued that Bwala appeared unprepared for the intense questioning, which left him unable to promote the policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration effectively.
“He likely saw the interview as a platform to champion the administration, but Hasan seized control and forced him to address past statements,” Otitoju said, noting that Bwala faced repeated confrontations over his prior criticisms of Tinubu before joining the government.
Otitoju described the interview as a “brutal assault” and “mental torture” for viewers, adding that Bwala failed to achieve his intended purpose of showcasing the administration’s achievements.
“He made a big mistake going head-to-head with Mehdi Hasan. He should have known he would not come out unscathed,” he warned.
