Barcelona has announced that its return to the Camp Nou will be delayed until at least mid-February, as major modernisation and expansion work continues on the historic stadium. The club confirmed that their La Liga matches against Valencia (January 26) and Alaves (February 2) will be held at the Montjuic Olympic Stadium, their temporary home.
Barcelona explained that UEFA regulations prevent clubs from switching stadiums during the Champions League’s opening phase, alongside the logistical and financial challenges of maintaining two venues simultaneously. The team’s next possible home game at Camp Nou could be on February 16 against Rayo Vallecano.
The club had initially aimed to return to Camp Nou by the end of 2024, with a partial capacity of 62,000. However, the full renovation, part of the “Espai Barca” project, is expected to be completed by the summer of 2026, when the stadium will have a capacity of 105,000 and a new roof.
Work on the Camp Nou began in June 2023 but was delayed due to permit issues and complaints over working conditions. As a result, Barcelona has extended its agreement to use the Montjuic Olympic Stadium until March 31, 2025, as a precautionary measure.
