Babatunji Wusu –

Bassey Otu’s election as the governor of Cross River State has been confirmed by the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

In a decision on Friday, the court denied the appeal that Professor Sandy Onor and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) made in an attempt to remove APC Governor Otu from office.

Justice Helen Ogunwumiju concluded in the lead judgment that the appellants had not proven their case.

Following that, Justice Ogunwumiju upheld the concurrent rulings of the Court of Appeal and Election Tribunal, both of which had upheld Otu’s election.

Remember that Otu emerged victorious in the gubernatorial race over his nearest rival, PDP senator Onor, who received 179,636 votes, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

With a total of 258,619 votes, Otu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for governor, became victorious in 15 of the state’s 18 local governments.
