Charles Kurobo, a senior special assistant to the governor of Bayelsa State and the chairman of the first phase of the Niger Delta Ex-agitators’ Leadership Forum in Bayelsa State, has defected from Governor Douye Diri and the PDP for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Kurobo stated that he left the gathering because he was starving.

He bemoaned the fact that, as a political appointee to a governor in office, he had to join the APC once again before going hungry.

The former militant claimed that despite working for a governor who is still in office, his family, dependents, and friends had lost faith in him and that is why he came forward to publicly clear his reputation.

He stated, “My position as a serving SSA to the governor on special duties, is supposed to have a positive impact on those around me, especially my immediate family. However, recharging my phone for effective communication would have been a great challenge if not for the prompt intervention of other crucial stakeholders from our Niger Delta region.

“It is really a shame that the administration summoned the confidence to win the kind of support I see and sense from some Bayelsans despite the level of poverty and malnutrition that the governor, Senator Douye Diri, purposefully generated.

Is this a sign that we haven’t learned enough? Or have we not yet realized that the next four years would be marked by severe difficulty, perhaps much more so than what we are currently going through? Where are we proud of ourselves?

The former militant commander urged Bayelsans to support Timipre Sylva, the APC’s nominee for governor, and added that the populace needed to align with a system that would design a program to satisfy the demands of those involved in the state’s development.

In order to advance fairness and justice and to empower men and women from all walks of life in the development of the state, he underlined that support for Sylva should be seen as a political revolution carried out through the ballot.

In his remarks, he urged people from all walks of life to “rise to the occasion and take up the challenge to the effect that Chief Timipre Sylva returns elected come November 11, 2023.” He added, “On behalf of my family, the APC leadership from the least unit of the state to the hierarchy.”
