The members of the Bayelsa Governorship Election Petition Tribunal have been urged to recuse themselves from the hearing.

On Monday, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Timipre Sylva, the party’s governorship candidate in the Bayelsa State governorship election held on November 11, 2023, claimed that the Tribunal led by Justice Adekunle Adeleye would not provide them with justice or a fair trial.

In their latest motion on notice, the APC and Sylva made it clear that they no longer have faith or confidence in the tribunal.

The motion was filed in accordance with Section 36 of the 1999 Constitution, as well as paragraphs 18 and 47 of the first schedule of the Election Act of 2022.

In the event that the Tribunal members do not rescue themselves, the two petitioners have asked access to the proceedings record from the start of the hearings on February 14, 2024, to the end of their case on February 27.

APC and Sylva insisted that the true state of the witness testimony be recorded in the session’s records.

throughout a statement signed and published by the State Commissioner for Environment, Philemon Ogbonna, the administration enforced a ban on the usage of ‘Take Away’ food containers throughout the state, highlighting that the product had already been restricted in other states, such as Lagos. He encouraged the public to stop using the foils immediately until a comprehensive study into the potential health dangers is completed.

INEC, Governor Douye Diri, Deputy Governor Lawrence Ewhrujakpo, and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have all responded to the APC and Sylva’s Petition dated EPT/BY/Gov/04/2023.

The counsels for INEC, Governor Douye Diri, Deputy Governor Lawrence Ewhrujakpo, and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, all vehemently opposed granting the request.
