The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won all eight local government chairmanship seats in Bayelsa State’s recent council elections.
The party also won a clean sweep of parliamentary seats across the 105 wards, demonstrating its political dominance in the state.
The Bayelsa State Independent Electoral Commission (BYSIEC) oversaw the elections, which were boycotted by the main opposition parties, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Labour Party.
This was the first local government election held under Governor Douye Diri’s leadership, and it was viewed as a litmus test for the administration’s popularity and political apparatus.
The Returning Officer, Dr. Godric Deinduomo, announced the results in Ogbia Local Government Area, declaring Golden Jeremiah of the PDP the winner after 42,462 votes.
Dr. Ebi Udisi, the Returning Officer in Southern Ijaw LGA, declared Target Segibo of the PDP, a pioneer member of the state House of Assembly, the election winner after he received 36,326 votes in total.
In Ekeremor LGA, Onniye Isaac of the PDP, a pioneer member of the state House of Assembly, polled 35,177 votes and was declared the winner of the election by the Returning Officer, Prof. Joseph Omoro, while Mrs. Alice Tangi of the PDP polled 51,543 votes to win the contest in Sagbama LGA.
Leilei Tariye of the PDP was proclaimed the winner of the Kolokuma-Opokuma Local Government Area after polling a total of 27,823 votes, while Chief Wisdom Soreh, the returning officer, declared Bulodisiye Ndiwari the Mayor of Yenagoa LGA after polling 56,103 votes.
In Nembe council, David Alagoa of the PDP received 11,829 votes and was proclaimed the winner, while Lucky Febo of the PDP received 35,709 votes in Brass LGA.
