Some lawmakers reportedly lost the 2023 general elections because they lacked the resources to fund their campaigns, according to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

In a recent virtual program, Wilson Uwujaren, the EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, said this. As you may recall, there were very few Naira notes in circulation during the elections as a result of the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) Naira redesign strategy.

DailyTrust quotes him as saying: “The violence during elections was triggered by the shortage of cash which was the CBN’s naira redesign strategy since politicians could not buy votes.

Some politicians lost elections in their own districts, which was impossible because they lacked the resources to do it.
