BENJAMIN KALU IS NOW THE DEPUTY SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.

The deputy speaker of the 10th House of Representatives has selected Abia State Benjamin Kalu.

Jimi Benson, who represents the Ikorodu federal seat in Lagos State, proposed Mr. Kalu for election, and Khadijat Abba-Ibrahim, who represents the Damaturu federal constituency in Yobe State, seconded her.

There was no other nominee, thus Mr. Kalu, a member of the House serving his second term, was elected without opposition.

He succeeds Idris Wase, a candidate for the speakership.

Since 1999, Mr. Kalu has served as the House Assembly’s 8th deputy speaker.
