The Benue Police Command confirmed that six individuals lost their lives in a tragic boat crash on Saturday, December 14, in River Benue, Agatu Local Government Area. A total of 11 people were rescued, with eight of them resuscitated and now responding to treatment. Two victims were confirmed dead at the scene and have been placed in the mortuary.
Four more bodies were recovered on Monday, bringing the death toll to six, with three others still missing as of 4 pm on December 16, 2024. The boat accident claimed the lives of approximately 20 people, and local divers played a crucial role in rescuing those who survived.
SP Catherine Anene, Police Public Relations Officer, reiterated that the search continues for the missing persons, while the authorities are handling the situation with the utmost seriousness.
