Former Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov has lavished praise on Kobbie Mainoo following the Red Devils’ Premier League victory over Tottenham on Saturday.

Berbatov, who played for both United and Spurs, singled out the young midfielder’s intelligence and composure, expressing relief that Mainoo remained at Old Trafford despite speculation he could leave in search of more playing time.

Speaking after the match, Berbatov said Mainoo’s awareness sets him apart, noting how the 20-year-old constantly scans the pitch to read situations before receiving the ball. He explained that Mainoo’s ability to control tempo, draw opponents toward him and release timely passes creates space for Manchester United in advanced areas.

Berbatov added that keeping Mainoo at the club has allowed fans to fully appreciate his quality, insisting the midfielder’s performances show he is still developing and capable of reaching a higher level.

Mainoo, a graduate of Manchester United’s academy, has now made 90 senior appearances for the club. He has scored seven goals and provided five assists since breaking into the first team.

Manchester United are currently enjoying a strong run of form, recording four consecutive league wins. The Red Devils will look to extend that streak when they travel to face West Ham United on February 10.
