Bilyaminu Yusuf Shinkafi, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in Zamfara State, has made security the centre of his campaign, saying the state cannot prosper while its people remain unsafe.
Shinkafi said insecurity had disrupted communities, displaced families and forced many farmers to abandon their farms.
He described security as the foundation of his proposed administration and said his government would prioritise the safety of residents.
The ADC candidate made the remarks in a statement issued in Gusau on Thursday.
He was formally introducing himself to ADC stakeholders, party members and supporters across the state.
“My commitment is clear: security will be the foundation of our government,” Shinkafi said.
Zamfara has faced persistent security challenges, including attacks on communities, abductions and displacement.
As a result, insecurity has affected farming and other economic activities in several parts of the state.
Shinkafi argued that government must create conditions that allow residents to live, work and invest without fear.
He also linked security to economic development, particularly agriculture.
According to him, farmers cannot produce effectively when they fear attacks while travelling to or working on their farms.
Therefore, he said his administration would treat security as a major priority rather than an issue that receives attention only after attacks occur.
The ADC candidate also called for stronger engagement with communities as part of efforts to address insecurity.
However, the success of any security plan will depend on effective coordination between the state government and security agencies.
For Zamfara residents, the key question will be how the candidate intends to turn his promise into practical action if elected.
Bilyaminu Yusuf Shinkafi will now face the task of convincing voters that his security-focused agenda can bring lasting stability and create room for economic growth.
